Ugliness as a product feature

Not that it does have an impact on the gameplay or anything like that, but Platinum editions of games are just what they are: ugly. Even though I understand the idea behind the concept of a Platinum edition I don't like the execution. Screwed up games cover that miss a lot of the beauty of the original game. More or less the price you pay for getting a budget titles, right.

PS3 Platinum Large

What I don't get is why you need to change the cover at all. When a platinum edition of a game gets relaunched, the game already sold 1 million copies at least and it's already a couple of month on the market. Typically more than a year. by the time, the price for the product already went down to the level the Platinum version is offered. So what's the point. Sony, believe me, you won't sell anything less using the original covers.

Interestingly enough, there are other indepedent Platinum like series out there, that come with the original game covers, publishing even Sony games. Guess what, nobody cares. And they go for even less than the usual Platinum price.

P.S. Those pics are by no means confirmed or official, but in any case don't expect the Platinum version of the PS3 games to look any better. We'll see soon.

quoteleftThe choice of bright colours has probably got to do for picking up the consumers attention.

And i agree with u to rather have the original cover, but thats probably because im hardcore. The casual would likely pick the platinum version cause of the cheaper price point.quoteright
