Sony is not going for world-wide PS3 launch (Update)
Update: This turned out to be wrong. See also. According to Nick Sharp, Head of Corporate Communications of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Sony is not going to launch the PS3 in all markets at the same time. Reeze made this statement in an interview in gamesindustry.biz Sharp made also clear that an earlier statement of David Reeves, SCEE boss, was not meant as an statement for a world-wide start but rather a commitment to achieve a Europe launch as soon as possible.

PS3 manufacturing to kick off in June
According to a news on theinquirer.com
"TAIWANESE manufacturer COMPEQ has announced that it has been given orders from Sony to produce circuit boards for the PS3. COMPEQ, which manufactured parts for the PSP, will make the high-density interconnect printed circuit boards for the console. The company did not say when it was planning to start manufacturing the boards, but a Chinese website, Mydrivers, says it has a deep throat in the company who said that things have to be underway by June or July." After a long time of more or less negativ rumours this is actually a pretty good news. Let's hope that this is true.

First generation NextGen sucks!
Did you ever look at some of the early XBOX360 games yet? What did you think about it? When I looked at some of the stuff I was really disappointed. Of course, the graphics is far better then what you can get on any console.
But there is one thing that really worries me the longer I think about it: all the stuff looks like ordinary PC games. One of the reasons buying a console instead of playing games on my PC was the look and feel of console games vs. PC games. PC games tend to be so clean and artifical compared to console games. One of the things PC gamers are always fond of, the higher resolution, actually leads to a visual atmosphere that is in my opinion not appropriate for many kind of games. Sure, if you are playing World of Warcraft or any other of those strategy games, this is key. But what about the typical console games? What seems like a major drawback of consoles, the limited TV set resolution actually comes to the rescue here as the TV set does some natural filtering to the visuals that make up a lot of the flavour of console games. Remember the N64 and the very specific look of that machine? Something you'll not gonna find in any PC game. Talking about the next generation consoles I actually expect that some of this look and feel will be brought over even in HD. I think developers have to learn how to leverage HD in the right way. Just using the same technologies that have been used in PC games for quiet some time isn't enough. HD on consoles needs to be different from that. Otherwise typical console gamers will not accept it.

Looks like spring is gonna be late this year ...
Rumors have it that the official release date of the PlayStation 3, spring 2006, can no longer be achieved by Sony. By now the marketing army should be already underway, wholesale should be able to put orders but all of this is not yet happening.
Even though I am not to angry about releasing the next generation PlayStation in a pre-mature state (which was obviously the case for the XBOX 360) I don't like the way Sony is communicating or let me better say not communicating this. If this is all planned from the start, communication sucks. If it is not, it sucks either. Instead of making things clear to the outside it looks like nobody has a plan at Sony. You hear different Sony officials make statements, not coordinated at all. To say at least, this is very unprofessional. We are talking about an event that takes place every 6-7 years and those guys are not able to get it to the point. Ok, enough said. Sony, please prove me wrong.

Blu-ray movies about to arrive in May
As Sony announced yesterday, they are going to ship the first Blu-ray movies May, 23rd. This is kind of interesting in another way as SCE just recently commented speculations of a delayed PS3 introduction with the not yet finished specs for the DRM technology used by Blu-ray. So how can those movies be announced if the DRM is not yet ready at the same time they call a PS3 delay possible? Kind of strange. Let's see what's actually the case.

A distinctive, new PlayStation website ...
... just before the PS3 finally arrives. I was carrying this idea for a couple of years now: a PlayStation related website that basically covers all the interesting news around one of my hobbies and serves also as a showcase for my own games collection. I just needed to finish that before the introduction of the PS3 as I wanna cover this event right from the start.
Beside the regular news updates and the complete list of all the games I currently own, you currently also find games reviews and other useful links that lead to even more interesting stuff. Stay tuned ...
